KIYOE MATSUURA

KIYOE MATSUURA, violin, became an Apollo’s Fire Young Artist Fellow in 2024. Performing on baroque violin and viola, Kiyoe has played in groups such as Haymarket Opera Orchestra, Callipygian Players, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and Bella Voce Sinfonia. Her violin/keyboard duo, Ensemble Vitelotte, is dedicated to works by historical women composers and was recently awarded a grant by Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs. She studied baroque violin at the American Bach Soloists Academy, Amherst Early Music Festival, Oberlin’s Baroque Performance Institute, and the “Juilliard at the Piccola Accadamia” workshop. Kiyoe has been a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the American Youth Symphony, and the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra. Certified in Suzuki pedagogy, she served on the violin faculty of DePaul University’s Community Music Division for 7 years. Along with in-person teaching, Kiyoe has created over 200 YouTube teaching videos for young violin students, receiving hundreds of thousands of views. She holds a Master’s Degree from DePaul University.
