Bach B Minor Mass – An Immersion Experience
Opportunity for Emerging Conductors
with GRAMMY®-winning baroque conductor
JEANNETTE SORRELL
Apollo’s Fire and Apollo’s Singers
April 4-5, 2025
Cleveland, Ohio

Apollo’s Fire, the international period ensemble, invites emerging and young professional conductors to a behind-the scenes and inside-the-score experience with Bach’s B MINOR MASS. GRAMMY®-winning conductor Jeannette Sorrell will share insights as she shapes this masterwork from the rehearsal to performance with her acclaimed ensemble.
Recognized internationally as one of today’s most compelling interpreters of Baroque and Classical repertoire, Jeannette Sorrell is credited with “forging a vibrant, life-affirming approach to early music” (BBC Magazine) and praised for her “revelatory performance” (Opera News) of Bach’s sacred works.
Participants will attend rehearsals and up to two performances of the work. In addition, roundtable discussions with Ms. Sorrell, principal players, and vocal soloists will explore topics including:
-
- Interpretation: text-painting, musical storytelling, and evoking drama and theatricality
- Historically informed and compelling for today: practical advice on how to help musicians be at their most stylish and buoyant in this repertoire – either with modern instruments or period instruments.
The roundtable discussions will be relevant for choral, symphonic, and early music conductors alike.
Please note that some rehearsals and/or roundtable discussions may be filmed for future release on YouTube.
