Virtuoso Orchestra

Four violinists square off and prepare for a duel.

The fiery “Concerto for Four Violins” was one of the showpieces of Vivaldi’s famous (all-girl) orchestra in Venice. Apollo’s Fire and Jeannette Sorrell set smoke rising with this and other virtuoso concertos written for Europe’s top bands. Program includes J.S. Bach’s beloved Concerto for Oboe and Violin, the sparkling Brandenburg Concerto no. 4, and colorful concertos of J.D. Heinichen, written for the famous orchestra of the Dresden palace.
