Blues Café 1610

"What’s not to love about a Baroque jam session that ends with dancing
in the aisles to a madrigal by Monteverdi?...very cool."

Nell Snaidas, soprano
Oliver Mercer, tenor
Karim Sulayman, tenor
Jeffrey Strauss, baritone
Rex Benincasa, percussion

SCENE: A café in Italy or Spain, around 1610
CHARACTERS: A few singers, a couple of guitars, violins, exotic percussion
ACTION: Musicians jamming on the popular “blues” bass lines of the time

Songs of love or despair are woven over ground bass patterns like the passacaglia, the ciaccona and the passamezzo. Program includes works by Monteverdi, Castello, Capricornus, Bertali and others. This jam session is bound to be different every night!
